Fractional CDO and interim development leadership
Experienced fundraising leadership can help your organization move forward before a full-time executive is the right investment. LOVE Fundraising provides fractional chief development officer (CDO), fractional development director, and interim leadership support for nonprofits.
Led by Christine Ann Stevens, MBA, CFRE, SHRM-CP, LOVE brings more than a decade of fundraising leadership across large institutions and small teams.
Discuss your leadership needs →What does a fractional CDO do?
A fractional CDO leads the development function for an agreed portion of time. The engagement can include setting priorities, managing staff, guiding donor strategy, building forecasts, and working with the CEO and board. The scope establishes what LOVE leads, what staff own, and how decisions are made.
When this support makes sense
Your nonprofit may have a capable development team that needs senior direction, a CEO carrying too much of the fundraising work, or ambitious goals without a staffing plan to support them. Fractional leadership can also help establish the conditions a future full-time leader will need.
Interim leadership serves a different need: maintaining direction and continuity during a vacancy or transition. We agree on immediate priorities and the handoff needed for the next leader.
What we can work on together
- A fundraising plan grounded in donor performance, available capacity, and organizational priorities.
- Staff supervision, practical work plans, and clear responsibilities.
- Major gift strategy, donor follow-up, and leadership participation in relationships.
- Revenue forecasts, pipeline reviews, and a useful reporting rhythm.
- Board fundraising expectations and support for putting them into practice.
- Processes, job descriptions, and transition planning.
What your organization receives
An agreed leadership scope, defined responsibilities, a working plan, and a regular rhythm for reviewing progress. LOVE participates in the work within that scope. We establish deliverables, availability, decision authority, and reporting before the engagement begins.
Fractional leadership or outsourced development?
Fractional leadership provides direction and management. Outsourced development adds people to carry out agreed fundraising functions. Some organizations need both. Others need a focused assessment, coaching, or a full-time search. The right choice depends on the work and resources available.
How an engagement begins
We begin with a conversation about your goals, current team, donor program, and leadership needs. From there, we define a paid engagement with a clear scope, timeline, and investment. Executive search is also available as an independent service.
